Romance Recs for (Almost) Every Level of Heat

Valentine’s Day is almost here, and while it pains me that one of my first posts is Valentine-themed, I’m using it as an excuse to throw romance recs at yall like a glitter cannon 💘

Whether you’re in the mood for swoons or straight-up smut, I’ve put together a little something for every heart – except, sadly, the girlies into Black Flags. (I really tried, but it’s just not my thing; I either dnf-ed them or skipped them entirely.) Organised by spice level, this guide takes you from sweet to scandalously steamy helping you swipe right on your perfect romance 😚

The Spice Scale
💌 Sweetheart – Low spice, high serotonin, maximum heart-eyes.
💋 Flirt – Teasing, tension, and “did they just touch??” moments.
❤️ Heartthrob – Hot looks, heavy yearning, and chemistry that crackles.
🔥 Lover – Explicit, indulgent, and filthy in the best way. Hydrate accordingly
🏴 Black Flag – Red flags start looking beige.

Sweetheart

Soft, charming, and overflowing with heart-eyes energy. Expect quiet crushes that feel way too intense, shy smiles that short-circuit your brain, and cute gestures that have you giggling under the covers and kicking your feet in the air at 2 am. From slow-burning classics to modern rom-coms brimming with charm, these romances are all about tender connections, first crush vibes, and moments that make your heart do little somersaults.

Flirt

These romances thrive on stolen glances, lingering touches, and playful banter that have you screeching JUST KISS ALREADY!! as characters dance around their feelings. From nostalgic crushes to rival teasing, every interaction crackles with bubbling attraction and tiny sparks that refuse to be ignored. The tension builds deliciously, keeping you on edge, begging for that long-awaited kiss that will finally set their worlds (and yours) on fire.

Heartthrob

This is the tier where the looks are hotter, the silences heavier, and every shared moment feels charged with something dangerously close to wanting too much. Yearning simmers just under the surface, tangled up with feelings, timing, and emotional baggage that makes everything hit harder. These romances pull you into the aftermath of desire, leaving you caught somewhere between exhilaration, longing, and the weight of what just happened.

Lover

Sparks aren’t just flying – they’re doing full-blown pyrotechnics as tension explodes into wanton desire. These romances are explicit, indulgent, and wickedly fun, resulting in romantic rollercoasters that make your heart and hormones compete for attention. Lusty glances, tangled sheets emotions, and chemistry that refuses to behave might just leave you needing a cold shower (or three).

Black Flag

I really wanted to include some recommendations but the closest I’ve come to this trope are with Raise wa Tanin ga ii by Asuka Konishi (yandere mafia male lead but subtle psychological romance) and The Mindf*ck Series by S T Abby (dark, disturbing plot but basic adult romance) 🥲 I just don’t enjoy reads matching the vibes that Haunting Adeline brings to the genre iykyk.

Side Note: If you noticed I haven’t included any queer romances here, that’s because I’m generally not drawn to them. Visibility and representation are important, so I’ll always cheer on queer releases by boosting others hyping them up. But with romances, I want to feel like I want to be the female lead if that makes sense. So, though I enjoy queer secondary couples, or queer romances as a side plot of other genres, I tend to read mostly ‘straight’ romances.

Having said that, if queer romance recommendations are what you came here for, here are some bloggers/booktubers who’ve got you covered:
📌 Jessica @ peacelovebooksxo – Favourite Queer Romances of 2025
📌 Leslie @ She Reads Romance Books – 25 New Queer Romance Books to Read in 2025
📌 Stephanie @ The Espresso Edition – 20+ Queer Romance Books That You’re Going to Love
📌 Sumedha @ The Wordy Habitat – 16 Queer Adult Romance Books that You Will Love

So yeah, those are my romance recs organised by how feral they made me feel. Also, is it just me or does sharing romance recommendations feel like there’s a level of vulnerability other genres just don’t require? I’ve basically added documented evidence of what gets me to my digital footprint, and it feels… lowkey embarrassing??

Anyways – lmk where you’re landing on this scale and whether it’s a soft and wholesome or a ‘lock the door’ situation 🤭 And feel free to drop your favourites, guilty pleasures, or anything that made you kick your feet and scream into a pillow, because I am always down to expand my (already endless) TBR.

Until next time 💌

Byeee,
Mayumi
